THE AC72 - THE FIRST HIGH PERFORMANCE CATAMARAN IN ARTISANAL ITALIAN EXCELLENCE

The AC72 is the embodiment of Made-in-Italy luxury, craftsmanship and high performance. A true “maxi-cat” with all of the elegance, refinement and innovation found on all Advanced Yachts

Made in Italy isn’t just a trademark, it’s a statement of intent: to deliver the very best sailboat in its class. The Advanced AC72 is characterised by versatility – the yachting equivalent of an SUV. “Made in Italy” construction is more than a simple “brand “for us – it reflects our history, our philosophy, and our unique approach to catamarans.

High quality, exclusivity and elegance are the hallmarks that distinguish all of our boats.
The harmony of shapes and colors combined with the exclusivity of design choices, allow us to deliver unique yachts in which we pay great attention to every single detail. In particular the perfection of our hand-made finishes,is a source of great pride.
With the AC72 you, your friends and family will find reimagined sailing surrounded by bright and spacious spaces as you would have in a real villa on the sea.

Four outstanding features found on the new AC72

1 – A TAILOR MADE YACHT

Every owner has unique requirements depending on their lifestyle and sailing plans.  That is why we want to build yachts that effortlessly express the personality, tastes and sensibilities of you, the client.  The care we put in the execution of each build process leads to being able to identify and perfect all of the fine details – combine that with our exhaustive search and selection process to identify the highest quality materials, and we arrive at our truly unique and exclusive boats.
As a starting point, the AC72 proposes 3 layouts, and 3 styles – our sartorial templates, from which to inspire your own unique yacht.

2 – ITALIAN DESIGN

Expansive space meet sailing enjoyment in perfect balance in our 72ft cruising cat. With a saloon unmatched in large cruising catamarans, an “aft beach” stretching the full 10-metres beam, and a forward cockpit to enjoy private relaxation. And yet, painstaking hours were taken to maximise the use of every square millimetre aboard the AC72. Our careful visualization and modelling process allowed for 360-degree views from the saloon seats, with pleasant and natural light in all areas to make the yacht inviting and atmospheric. Indoor/outdoor living is delivered in true Italian fashion via the broadest possible 3-section saloon doors. Our reimagined flybridge allows the helmsman, family, and guests to engage in the sailing and social time altogether. The AC72 is an irrepressible mix of social living with sailing pleasure.

3 – EXHILARATING PERFORMANCE

To ensure exhilirating performance under sail, Advanced Yacht entrust the naval architecture to renown American studio Reichel/Pugh – an established leader in the design of high-performance boats. The resulting design and construction technique was highly optimized for responsive handling and crucially, to save weight.  Hull and deck are in composite – using advanced foam cores and being vacuum-infused with epoxy resin. Extensive use of carbon reinforcements are found throughout the areas of maximum load and the deckhouse is fully carbon construcftion. The interiors are lightweight, and all the fittings are chosen with particular attention to durability while all are weighed before being installed.

4 – Variable Draft Versatility

Exploring the shallow-draft tropics is a key capability of the AC72, while race-winning performance is part of Advanced DNA. To blend these two requirements, innovative centreboards are fitted to provide shallow draft freedom, with no compromise on performance. Combined with our approach to manageability of propulsion, steering and sail handling, we made this yacht the perfect exploration vessel for sailors of all skill levels, with or without crew. Carefully engineered by the best in the business, the centreboard systems are yet another example of Advanced Yachts commitment to excellence in practical yacht design.

The Design Team:

Naval Architecture

“I want our designs to be known for both their performance and elegance twenty years from now.” – Jim Pugh

To coalesce our clients demands for the often conflicting characteristics of speed, safety and spaciousness, Advanced Yachts needed exceptional naval architecture. Groundbreaking yachts are a result of exhaustive research and development, with more than a hint of inspiration and professional dedication.  That meant Advanced sought a team renown for resetting benchmarks in sailing innovation. Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design, in business for over forty years, has an unmatched reputation as leaders in the field, with a depth of design experience and resources that have produced scores of revolutionary designs. We are thrilled to partner with Reichel/Pugh to thoughtfully design the AC72 and deliver a fantastic new type of cruising experience to Advanced Yachts owners.

Here is what Reichel/Pugh said about the AC72: “As the naval architect, Reichel/Pugh are excited about Advanced Yachts A72 Catamaran project and the collaboration with Cassetta Design, project manager Trimarine SRL, and of course the team at Advanced.  We see this as a project within the catamaran cruising/performance market and one that can clearly excel”.

The Advanced AC72 Catamaran strikes the perfect harmony of state-of-the-art performance, safety and luxury, and we ensured it comes with a long list of  special design features that mean it really comes together as a wholistic yacht of character and distinction:

  • The robust power-to-weight ratio not only provides the speed to excite at regattas, but comes with the stability needed to stay safe and relaxed while undertaking long ocean miles and shorthanded sailing.
  • The chined hull lines have been optimized to reduce drag while supporting the spacious interior living spaces.
  • The hull rocker and bow shape ensure good maneuverability while providing valuable reserve buoyancy.
  • The sheerline and stem profile are shaped to reduce weight and windage.
  • A crucial feature of the naval architecture is the variable draft provided by the centreboard systems. This delivers the upwind pointing ability all sailors value dearly, with the shallow draft capability to grant access to entire regions of the world that are otherwise impossible to reach and impractical for a monohull. Fused deployment actuation provides enhance safety over a dagger board design. Multiple deployment angles allow for reducing helm loads when reaching. The center case protects the shaftline and rudder from damage from underwater debris.
  • A self-tacking headsail ensures easy sail handling. Powerful reaching and running flying sails.
  • Twin flybridge helm stations provide superior visibility and ultimate helm experience.

Foam cored construction with carbon fiber in high load region and throughout the cabin top reduces lightship weight to ensure a great payload capacity

We are waiting for the launch of hull #1 with great anticipation!

For the Design

The Advanced Design Team is thrilled to have engaged the Italian studio CASSETTA – known for their innovative and inspiring Made in Italy creations, and with deep technical skills to ensure clients receive true custom interior design services. With so much space available through the naval architecture, it was crucial to engage a design team able to exploit the opportunity with true precision, and also with flair. Here is what Cassetta said about the AC72:

“We felt there was a gap in the market for a stylish, yet functional and safe, sailing cat. With Advanced Yachts, we tried to find the best blend of comfort and performance by focusing on ease of use, ergonomic details typical of large yachts and extensive use of technology to improve quality of life on board (large glass windows and doors, state of the art aircon, integration of structural and interior design to maximize space usage and aesthetic outcome).
We also approached layout development ensuring maximum guest privacy and comfort while simplifying the crew’s job of making the yacht function properly.
As far as styling is concerned, we have departed from the traditional profiles – centring our approach by interrogating all of the peculiar proportions of a catamaran; fine-tuning of volumes and of their position and movement in space is the foundation of this project, while intentionally purging any unnecessary decorative detail.
Visual purity was paramount to express the brand’s desire for distinction and ‘Italian elegance’.
